This position is open for our office in Greece. The Business Controller in a global maritime TIC (Testing, Inspection, and Certification) business supports financial and operational goals by delivering timely, data-driven insights tailored to the complexity of high transaction volumes across multiple regions. This role works closely with the accounting team in a Shared Service Center (SSC) and collaborates remotely with business units worldwide, requiring a high level of proficiency in Excel and Power BI to provide transparent, actionable financial insights
Job Description
The Business Controller plays a crucial role in our financial operations, providing data-driven insights to support global business units. Working closely with our Shared Service Center (SSC), the Business Controller manages high-volume financial analyses, budgeting, and forecasting, leveraging advanced Excel and Power BI skills.
This position reports directly to the CFO.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Analysis & Reporting:
- Conduct in-depth financial analyses of high-transaction operations, collaborating with the SSC accounting team to ensure data accuracy across multiple regions.
- Build and maintain complex financial models in Excel, focusing on revenue forecasting, margin analysis, and transaction trend analysis.
- Develop Power BI dashboards to offer real-time insights into metrics like revenue per transaction, regional performance, and operational costs, making data accessible for remote stakeholders.
Budgeting & Forecasting:
- Coordinate budgeting and forecasting processes, accounting for high transaction volumes and regional differences unique to the global maritime TIC business.
- Collaborate with SSC and operational teams to project revenue, costs, and resource needs, ensuring alignment with global financial goals.
- Use Excel and Power BI to streamline budget processes, create rolling forecasts, and provide accessible, real-time insights for business leaders.
Business Partnering and Decision Support:
- Act as a strategic financial advisor to operations and senior management, providing data-driven recommendations that address the complexities of a high-volume, global business.
- Support business planning for new projects by analyzing financial impacts across regions and transaction types, and collaborating with remote teams to enhance strategic outcomes.
- Work closely with SSC and regional teams to identify and address financial challenges specific to each geography, driving improved financial performance.
Power BI and Data Visualization:
- Design and refine Power BI dashboards to consolidate large datasets from multiple sources, offering insights into KPIs such as regional revenue, compliance metrics, and processing efficiency.
- Use Power BI’s capabilities to highlight trends and outliers within high-volume data, enabling proactive management of regional financial activities.
- Ensure consistency in Power BI data sources, granting SSC and remote teams access to real-time insights for informed decision-making.
Process Improvement and Automation:
- Lead process improvement initiatives to handle and analyze large transaction volumes more effectively, utilizing advanced Excel functions (e.g., Power Query, pivot tables, VBA) to automate workflows.
- Drive finance digitization efforts in the SSC, reducing manual data handling and enhancing data accuracy across high-volume operations.
- Standardize financial processes and reporting to ensure SSC and regional alignment with global standards and best practices.
Risk Management and Compliance:
- Oversee compliance across high-transaction regions, working with SSC teams to uphold adherence to regulations and corporate policies.
- Strengthen internal controls within the SSC to ensure audit readiness and data integrity within the high-volume environment.
- Participate in audits by providing consistent, clear data from Excel and Power BI, and support corrective actions as needed.
Function Requirements
- Education & Experience: Relevant postgraduate degree (such as a Master’s degree) in Finance, Accounting, or a related field, with a minimum of 4 years of professional experience in a similar position. OR relevant undergraduate degree (such as a Bachelor’s degree) in Finance, Accounting, or a related field, with at least 7 years of relevant experience in financial analysis, budgeting, and reporting in high-volume environments.
- Technical Skills: Advanced proficiency in Excel, including data modelling, Power Query, and VBA for automation. Proficiency in Power BI for creating interactive dashboards and managing large datasets, with a focus on high-volume data visualization.
- Cross-functional Collaboration: Requires experience working with cross-functional teams in a Shared Service Center (SSC) environment and coordinating remotely with global business units.
- Language: Fluent in English, with strong communication skills for effective collaboration with international teams.
- Other Requirements: An EU passport or an existing work permit for Greece is required.
