Role Summary
Reporting to the Group Head of Compliance, this role is pivotal in ensuring regulatory compliance and effective management of regulatory and financial crime risks across all European operations.
As the Regional Head of Compliance Europe & Compliance Officer for Cyprus, you will oversee the integration of Group compliance methodologies into local operations, manage compliance deliverables, and cultivate a culture of regulatory excellence. This role includes direct responsibility for one report and requires permanent residency in Cyprus. Fluency in English is mandatory.
Key Responsibilities
Operational Management (10%)
- Provide strategic direction for all European compliance and anti-financial crime activities.
- Implement and execute compliance and anti-financial crime strategies in alignment with the Group’s overarching goals.
- Foster a culture of compliance and ethical behavior across the organization.
- Leverage technology and industry best practices to enhance compliance processes.
- Engage with industry bodies to influence trends in compliance and risk management.
Governance and Operational Framework (20%)
- Develop and maintain European compliance policies and procedures in line with regulatory requirements.
- Provide comprehensive training on compliance and financial crime regulations to staff.
- Ensure seamless integration of compliance principles into day-to-day operations.
- Monitor and update compliance frameworks to address emerging risks.
- Represent the compliance function in organizational forums and regulatory interactions.
- Support the onboarding of newly acquired businesses through tailored compliance strategies.
- Promote knowledge sharing and collaboration across European operations.
Reporting, Advice, and Guidance (20%)
- Deliver timely, accurate reports on compliance and financial crime risks to senior management and governance committees.
- Provide actionable insights to mitigate financial and reputational risks.
- Advise business leaders on regulatory requirements and emerging trends.
- Prepare and present monthly reports to the Group Head of Compliance and European Excos.
- Offer technical expertise in regulatory compliance during the New Product Approval process.
Stakeholder Relationships (20%)
- Build and maintain strong relationships with regulators, auditors, and industry partners.
- Act as the primary contact for regulatory audits and implement action plans for identified issues.
- Collaborate with regional and in-country leadership teams to strengthen the compliance framework.
- Provide clear and effective compliance guidance to business units and Group Compliance.
- Respond promptly to regulatory and business inquiries.
Team Leadership & People Management (20%)
- Develop a high-performing compliance team, fostering accountability and excellence.
- Set clear, challenging objectives to drive individual and team success.
- Ensure professional development and succession planning for team members.
- Act as a mentor and role model, inspiring confidence and collaboration.
- Regularly assess team resources to ensure alignment with compliance objectives.
SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED
Essential:
- Comprehensive knowledge of European regulatory frameworks (e.g., MiFID II, Insurance Distribution Directive, FinSA).
- Experience with compliance and anti-financial crime methodologies, particularly within the CySEC regime or equivalent.
- Strong understanding of risk management and audit principles.
- Advanced CySEC qualification.
Preferred:
- Legal, audit, or risk management qualifications.
- Practical experience in integrating compliance frameworks into international business operations.
