As a
Data Engineer, you will play a crucial role in building and maintaining data infrastructure and pipelines that are reliable, scalable, and aligned with business needs. You will work on both real-time and batch-processing systems, ensuring data integrity and availability across the organisation. This role requires collaboration with cross-functional teams to implement innovative solutions that address the demands of our rapidly evolving technology landscape.
You will work closely with Pepperstone's Data Platform and Data Application teams, which are responsible for the collection, transfer, transformation, and storage of customer and trading data to support a variety of internal and external purposes.
As our
Data Engineer, your key responsibilities include, but not limited to
- Enhancing and sustaining our data infrastructure to guarantee optimal performance and unwavering reliability
- Designing and refining data pipelines for both batch and real-time processing with Python, Go, and other critical tools
- Supervising and monitoring data systems like Kafka, Redshift, and Kubernetes to ensure they meet our rigorous performance and reliability standards
- Collaborating with stakeholders and team members to seamlessly integrate new data sources while maintaining current ones, ensuring a fluid data flow across systems
- Creating and managing automated workflows using Airflow and DBT to optimize data processing and transformation tasks
- Leveraging AWS services to construct and maintain a cloud-based data infrastructure that emphasizes scalability and security
- Establishing monitoring solutions and resolving issues to maintain high availability and performance of our data systems
- Documenting systems, processes, and best practices to ensure knowledge transfer and effective system maintenance
- Working alongside the team to enhance software development practices, including coding standards, test-driven development, and CI/CD methodologies
- Engaging in our weekly support rotation to ensure first-level support for any incidents impacting the data engineering realm
About You
- A minimum of 3-5 years' experience in data engineering or a related field, demonstrating a robust understanding of data processing and distributed systems
- Proficiency in Python and/or Go, along with a rich background in designing data-intensive applications
- Hands-on experience with data streaming and batch processing technologies, particularly with tools like Kafka and Redshift
- Extensive familiarity with AWS services (such as S3, Redshift, RDS) and infrastructure-as-code tools like Terraform
- Practical experience using workflow automation tools like Airflow and DBT
- Proficient knowledge of various data formats (e.g., Parquet, Avro) and table formats (e.g., Iceberg, Hudi)
- Solid grasp of DBMS concepts, complemented by experience with both SQL and NoSQL databases
- Awareness of data security best practices and compliance standards, including GDPR
- Exceptionally strong problem-solving skills to address complex data challenges with innovative solutions
- Adaptable to thrive in a fast-paced environment with changing priorities
- A proactive mindset focused on identifying opportunities for improvement and overcoming challenges
- Meticulous attention to detail to ensure the accuracy and reliability of data systems
- Outstanding communication skills, both verbal and written, with a talent for effective collaboration in team settings
