Company Description
Sequela is a SaaS sustainability platform for the healthcare sector, headquartered in Nicosia, Cyprus. We help healthcare organizations track and reduce emissions, achieve sustainability targets, and meet regulation requirements such as EU CSRD. Our platform empowers healthcare providers to plan resources effectively in climate emergencies to protect patients.
Climate change is the single biggest threat to human health with $800 billion in costs and 250,000 deaths predicted each year over the next few years as a result of climate-related illnesses. Yet the health sector is a major contributor to climate change — If the health sector were a country, it would be the 5th largest emitter in the world! Sequela solves for this paradox by leveraging data analytics and AI to provide healthcare organizations with actionable intelligence for managing their carbon footprint and predictive insights for protecting their patients at risk of climate-related illnesses.
Role Description
We are hiring the first Full-Stack Developer to join our founding team in Nicosia, Cyprus. You will work closely with Maria (CTO), Steven (CEO) and Burak (COO) to transform the healthcare sector's approach to sustainability. This is a critical role! As the first developer, you'll get to be an integral part of an early-stage startup and build a tech solution from the ground-up.
This is a 6-month, full-time hybrid role, with the possibility of renewing the contract.
Candidates should already be located in Cyprus and have a working permit.
From day one, you will work closely with Maria to discover requirements, and work on the early version of our product and bring it to market. The Sequela platform consists of 3 core parts:
- A web application where health organizations are able to visually track their footprint emissions, receive recommendations on how to reduce their emissions, and produce footprint reports for the regulator.
- A data load & sanitation service, to help organizations provide pre-defined sets of data to Sequela.
- Data modeling & analytics, to use the organizations’ data and estimate footprint emissions.
The web application communicates with the data models to receive aggregated data alongside estimated emissions, and exposes them in visual graphs to the user.
How you’ll make an impact:
- You will help build the early version of the web application, with the backend retrieving aggregated data and estimated emissions from the data models, and the frontend showing the graphs that visualize this data. You will get to work across all aspects of the project, and you will have a say on technical decisions we’ll be making.
- You will be actively involved in scoping and iterating on requirements. While this will be driven by the founding team, we all care deeply in building the right thing at the right time.
- You will work with the following technologies: ReactJS and Typescript for frontend, NextJS for backend, Git for version control, Github Actions for deployments, and Google Cloud for hosting.
- You will work with the CTO to define technology choices and architecture. Joining this early means you get to make these decisions with the team.
- You will write and review code across backend and frontend, and deploy regularly.
- You take responsibility for the product you build and improve our codebase with your presence.
You will achieve your best if you:
- Have a degree in Computer Science, Mathematics or any alternative computer programming training
- Been a full-stack generalist with 4+ years experience building web applications
- Are most proficient with one of the two stacks (backend or frontend) but comfortable with developing in both.
- Are skilled in popular React tools such as webpack, Redux, Flux, etc.
- Are proficient with building RESTful APIs
- Are familiar with debugging problems using appropriate tools
- Are familiar with the Git version control system
- Find it easy to stay up-to-date with frequently changing requirements of any project
- Meet deadlines and manage tasks simultaneously
- Speak English fluently (verbal and written)
- Are an effective communicator, both verbally and written
- Are a team player, who wants and adds to a collaborative team effort
- Are eager to take initiative of your work and personal growth
If you don’t tick every box above, we’d still encourage you to apply. We’re building a diverse team whose skills balance and complement one another.
What would be great to have: (but we don’t care if you don’t have it)
- Previous experience working in tech startups, climate-tech or health-tech
- Knowledge of environmental sustainability, emissions, and carbon footprint
- Knowledge of the healthcare industry or healthcare operations
- Knowledge of or interest in developing with AI
- Willingness to travel if required
Perks of working at Sequela:
- The opportunity to have real direct impact in the world, to build a new solution from the ground up, and to be an integral part of an early-stage startup with many challenges!
- Working with a team of people who are kind, committed and open to new ideas!
- Competitive remuneration, dependent on your experience.
- Social contributions
How to apply:
To be considered for this role, all interested applicants should send their CV via email directly to hello@sequela.ai, including a short paragraph to say why they’re applying for this role and what makes them a great fit for this role. Keep this short and real! Send your email with the subject line “[Full Name] - Application for Full Stack Developer”.
Interview process:
- Stage 1: A 45-min conversation (remote), to understand your motivation to join Sequela, clarify role expectations and answer any questions.
- Stage 2: A 2-hour Past Experience and Technical Interview with the CTO. This may be in person or remote.
All candidates will hear back from us, either with an extended offer or a reason for not going ahead.
