About The Terimbere MSME Village And G2S Catalytic Funds
The Terimbere MSME Village Catalytic Business Development Support Fund (“Terimbere Fund”) intends to support MSMEs by
providing subsidies to access a defined set of business development services. The Terimbere Fund is used by MSMEs to provide affordable yet high-quality accounting, tax, legal, and other business development services.
The G2S Catalytic Fund
provides matching grants (returnable and non-returnable) to MSMEs led by youth, women, and vulnerable or disadvantaged populations working in the agribusiness and tourism and hospitality sectors to be used for activities such as prototyping solutions and/or other advancements in innovative products and services.
The goal of these funds is to help SMEs access debt and/or equity financing, increase productivity and efficiency so as to create dignified and fulfilling employment opportunities especially for young Rwandan women.
Further details on the scope and deployment of these projects will be elaborated in consultation with the selected Investment Analyst and stakeholders both internal and external to AFR.
Scope Of Responsibilities
The Investment Analyst is responsible for the development, implementation, and reporting of the Terimbere MSME Village and G2S Funds.
Reporting line: Program Manager-Terimbere MSME Investment Readiness
Supervises: None
Location: Kigali, Rwanda
Duration of the contract: Two years renewable based on performance.
Expected starting date: February 2024.
Responsibilities
The
Investment Analyst will be responsible for the following key tasks in relation to the
Terimbere MSME Village and G2S Funds:
- Assist in the development, refinement, and elaboration of Terimbere and G2S Funds policies, procedures, processes and tools
- Meet with and receive MSME executives and business owners at Terimbere MSME Village offices in Kigali and across Rwanda
- Encourage and assist MSMEs in completing relevant online diagnostic surveys
- Review applications submitted by Terimbere MSME Village partners
- Train and mentor Business Development Advisors (BDAs) and BDSPs on MSME diagnostic tools and any other business development services
- Interpret MSME diagnostic results and qualify MSMEs ability to be supported by Terimbere and/or G2S Funds according to fund policies
- Identify investment impediments hindering access to finance and growth for MSMEs as well as opportunities for innovation support
- Answer MSME questions on the components and requirements of the funds and assisting MSMEs in collecting documents and completing applications to the Terimbere and G2S Funds
- Review and evaluate the support provided to MSMEs by selected service providers and related deliverables and provide clear recommendations to Management and Investment Committees
- Assist MSMEs in utilizing the Terimbere and G2S Funds in a responsible manner
- Producing actionable reports on the progress and roadblocks experienced by MSMEs in the use of these funds and services as well as developing solutions to roadblocks and recommendations for adjustments in fund policies and procedures
- Communicate and coordinate regularly with the other project employees
- Lead and coordinate collaborations with stakeholders inside and outside of AFR
- Contribute to project activity planning, reporting, data analysis, and budgets as requested
- Other duties as assigned by Supervisor .
Educational Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Management, Economics, Development Studies or similar discipline
- Professional Qualification in Investment Analysis and Advisory, MSME Finance, etc. is preferred
Experience And Technical Skills
- Minimum 5 years of working experience in an Investment Advisory Firm, Development Finance Institution, Impact Investment Fund, commercial bank, or in a related position involving MSMEs and investment.
- Experience working across multiple stakeholder groups and organizations
- Familiar with the MSME market and challenges in accessing financing and creating jobs in Rwanda.
- Excellent writing, analytical and communication skills in written and spoken English and Kinyarwanda.
Attitude/ competences
- Proven capabilities of being well organized, attentive to details, and use of concise, persuasive writing.
- Ability to work in a team, including providing strategic inputs and effectively contributing to joint planning and implementation of program activities.
- Ability to work independently, proactively, manage multiple tasks, and set priorities to meet deadlines inside and in collaboration with external stakeholders.
