Position Title: English/Language Arts

Basic Function: The English/Language Arts teacher will be responsible for providing effective instruction in Language Arts. Instruction must be driven by the common core standards. The teacher must implement learning activities that are relevant to the lives of the students. Students with IEPs will be mainstreamed in these classes. So the teacher must provide accommodations as written in the students’ IEPs. Also, the teacher will have to work effectively with a special education co-teacher and paraprofessional. As the lead teacher, it will be expected that the teacher will direct and supervise the paraprofessional. It will also be expected that the special education teacher and the language arts teachers will share in the planning of lessons and the delivery of instruction.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Teach English/language arts curriculum to support student mastery of Indiana Academic Standards
- Use differentiated instructional strategies and use data to guide instruction and lesson plans to engage students in the learning process
- Manage the learning process, and focus on students’ individual needs and assess student growth
- Use formative assessments to inform students of their progress and modify instructional plans to adjust for student needs
- Create and maintain a safe classroom environment and appropriate classroom management for effective learning
- Maintain 8-Step Assessment Data
- Work collaboratively in a Professional Learning Community
- Record grades using the Corporation electronic grade book
- Monitor student progress and complete Quarterly Progress Reports
- Engage students, families, and support personnel in timely discussions regarding student progress and improvement plans
- Maintain professional responsibility for planning, implementing and evaluating the process of learning by attending and participating in required staff meetings/ staff development. Work together with the grade level team
- Utilize the SBCSC technology, as required
- Other duties as assigned by the principal
Qualifications: Language Arts License or Endorsement. If you do not have a teaching license, you will be required to obtain a 1-year temporary emergency permit with the Indiana Department of Education. Bachelor's degree required. Experience working with diverse populations. Experience with the day-to-day operation of schools. Strong knowledge of child development. Demonstrated skill in building relationships, trust and respect; Creative and imaginative approach to problems. Ability to work effectively with students, staff, and parents; strong speaking and writing abilities.
Physical Demands
Primary functions require sufficient physical ability and mobility to work in an office; dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a computer keyboard and other technologies and office equipment, sitting, standing and walking for extended periods of time; kneeling; bending at the waist; lifting; pushing; pulling and carrying equipment, supplies and materials weighing up to 25 pounds; repetitive hand movement and fine coordination to use a computer keyboard; emotional stability to work effectively under pressure and to keep all aspects of the job under control; hearing and speaking to exchange information in person or on the telephone; seeing to read; prepare and assure the accuracy of documents.
